  • Neelu Chauhan is an experienced lawyer and investigator who uses a thoughtful and pragmatic approach in addressing workplace issues. She has a Bachelor of Science from the University of British Columbia and received her law degree from the University of Victoria in 1999. She was called to the British Columbia Bar in 2000.

    Over her career, Neelu has gained the trust and confidence of senior leaders, human resources advisors, union representatives, and employees for being knowledgeable, trustworthy, and fair. Neelu is a member of the Law Society of British Columbia, the Canadian Bar Association, BC Branch, and the South Asian Bar Association of British Columbia.

  • Neelu has practiced exclusively in the areas of employment, labour, workers’ compensation, and human rights law throughout her career. After practicing law in a boutique labour and employment law firm, Neelu transitioned to in-house work in the post-secondary sector. Neelu worked as a Labour Relations Consultant with the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) and was the first individual in Labour Relations to receive an Employee Excellence award. After BCIT, Neelu worked at the University of British Columbia, in both Faculty Relations and Employee Relations, in various roles with increasing responsibility where she provided expert advice and support on a diverse range of workplace issues to human resource managers and senior leaders throughout the university.

    Neelu’s practice focuses on work as a neutral third-party investigator and workplace assessor where she can use her understanding of organizational culture and structures. She has experience conducting investigations for provincially and federally regulated employers, municipalities, and non-profit organizations. Neelu has conducted numerous investigations into a wide variety of matters, including bullying and harassment, sexual harassment, racism and discrimination, and misconduct.

    Neelu works collaboratively with employers, employees, and unions to understand concerns and find practical and effective ways to resolve workplace issues. She is skilled in her ability to maintain neutrality as a workplace investigator while still being able to consider a variety of perspectives. During her time in the post-secondary sector, Neelu also developed workplace policies and facilitated training on several workplace law topics. Additionally, she has experience as a Lead Negotiator in collective bargaining, where she gained an understanding of the labour relations framework in the provincial public sector.
