Finance and Corporate Commercial Investigations

At Southern Law we have a team of neutral service providers with deep-roots in various facets of business law. Our Finance and Corporate Commercial Investigations Team has the experience and expertise to navigate complex matters involving:

  • Fraud, conversion, and misappropriation

  • Suspicious patterns of transactions or financial management

  • Forgery

  • Inadequate financial controls

  • Violation of procurement and financial policies

  • Pecuniary and non-pecuniary conflicts of interest

  • Breach of fiduciary obligations

We can also advise and mediate conflict and governance issues at the board and C-Suite level, as well as assist with mediation and arbitration of shareholder disputes or disputes arising from commercial transactions. We can also provide training and coaching in these areas.

Nicole Byres, KC

Nicole Byres, KC brings extensive experience in corporate governance, and as a member of the Law Society of British Columbia’s Tribunal, she also has experience with complex financial investigations, regulatory compliance, and oversight. Her time spent as in-house counsel and sitting on boards overseeing large budgets, investment portfolios, and risk assessment informs Nicole’s work on finance and corporate commercial investigations, including matters involving alleged fraud, governance failures, and breaches of fiduciary duty. She is recognized for her measured, strategic approach and her judgment in navigating highly sensitive matters.
