Nina Fernando joins our firm to complete her articles after previously articling at Step-By-Step Law Corporation. A 2025 Juris Doctor graduate from the University of Victoria, she brings strong experience in litigation, family law, and client-centered advocacy, along with a reputation for practical judgment, strong drafting skills, and empathetic client service.
Nina has managed diverse files through her work at The Law Centre, representing clients before the Provincial Court and administrative tribunals, and preparing a wide range of pleadings, agreements, briefs, and legal opinions. Her advocacy has led to meaningful outcomes for vulnerable clients, including negotiated settlements and successful resolutions of long-standing disputes.
Nina also trained with the BC Ministry of Attorney General’s Legal Services Branch, supporting litigation counsel through research, memorandum writing, evidence review, and settlement preparation. Prior to law school, Nina spent several years working within the Alberta Courts as a Senior Judicial Clerk and non-presiding JP/Circuit Clerk, gaining deep insight into courtroom operations, procedure, and evidence management.
She has held leadership roles at UVic Law, including Co-President of both the Business Law Club and the Pan Asian Student Society, and has volunteered with organizations supporting newcomers, Indigenous communities, and access to justice initiatives. Nina is multilingual, speaking Tamil and English, and is currently learning Sinhala and Mandarin.
